Project that proposes the rehabilitation and reconversion of Can Roc, a traditional Mallorcan rural house from the mid-eighteenth century, into an artist residency, with the aim of building a plural and international community that enriches conversations around art and critical thinking.
The project was approached with the utmost respect for the vernacular architecture, placing value on collaboration with local artists, craftsmen and manufacturers. The original architecture is maintained and enhanced wherever possible, but leaves room for new interpretations without desecrating the soul of the house.
In search of creating a harmonious whole and a design coherent with the nature, context, history and nature of the space itself, colors, materials, shapes and furnishings have been selected and connected to each other.
The colors, soft mauves, greens and yellows, which evoke the nature that surrounds the place, are repeated in different materials and textures, such as glass, linen, terrazzo and lime mortar, on a neutral base of local stone and lime on floors, walls and ceilings. The space, as a whole, conveys a sense of calm and disconnection, along with occasional touches of color that invite creativity.
In this way, Can Roc fulfills the desire to be a cultural and sustainable destination in the heart of rural Mallorca.
