Son Palmer Nou
Rural Finca, Pla de Sant Jordi 2025
The project involves renovating an old dairy farm and traditional agricultural buildings in Pla de Sant Jordi, Mallorca, and adapting them for residential use. The intervention is based on preserving the original volume and proposing a functional update.
The existing building’s horizontality is maintained to preserve its scale, proportions, and relationship with the land. The strategy focuses on minimal volumetric alteration, mainly involving interior reorganization and improving living conditions.
The new layout increases spatial continuity and optimises the relationship between rooms by opening up interior spaces and passageways, allowing for greater fluidity and controlled natural light. The house is organised as a sequence of connected spaces with smooth transitions between communal and private areas.
To reinforce the flexibility of the programme, wooden sliding doors have been incorporated to allow for different degrees of privacy depending on use.
Elements of the original construction have been preserved and enhanced, including the wooden beams, the “volta de marès” ceilings, and the carved marès ‘orellat’ doorway.
The project aims to create a calm interior atmosphere with chromatic accents provided by works of art and an integrated reading corner to achieve a sense of balance.
The interior design maintains a consistent use of natural materials: lime-finished walls, continuous microcement flooring, a dark wooden kitchen, and doors that add character and contrast, steel carpentry and travertine countertops as the most prominent stone element.
The island’s mirrored front introduces a contemporary counterpoint, amplifying the light and making the piece appear lighter.
The custom-designed fireplace is conceived as a sculptural piece with organic lines and rests on a base of rough natural stone.
